Celebrating 10 Years of Coaching: Thank You, Lyle Van Wieren

This season, the Hawks Athletic Club was proud to recognize Lyle Van Wieren for an incredible milestone — 10 years of coaching within the Hawks organization.

For many Hawks families, Coach Lyle has simply always been there. Whether in Timbits, U9, U11, U13, or beyond, countless players have stepped onto the ice under his guidance over the past decade. For some families, he’s been part of their child’s very first hockey memories.
As part of this season’s Coach Feedback Survey, Lyle received an overwhelming amount of recognition and appreciation from families across multiple age groups. The feedback consistently highlighted not only his commitment to player development, but the positive, encouraging, and welcoming environment he creates for every player who steps onto the ice.
  • Parents described Lyle as:
  • patient and encouraging
  • organized and prepared
  • deeply invested in his players
  • someone who makes kids feel confident, included, and excited to play hockey
  • Several comments spoke about the lasting impact he has had on players and families throughout the years, with many recognizing the countless hours he has dedicated to the Hawks community.
Some of the feedback shared through the survey included:

“Lyle genuinely cares about every single player.”
“He creates such a positive environment for kids to learn and love the game.”
“Our child gained confidence every season playing for Coach Lyle.”
“Ten years of coaching says everything about his commitment to the kids and the club.”
    “This recognition is long overdue.”

Coaches like Lyle are the foundation of community hockey — volunteers who show up year after year because they care deeply about the experience young athletes have within the game.

Thank you, Lyle, for 10 years of leadership, mentorship, patience, and dedication to Hawks hockey. Your impact reaches far beyond the rink.
