25-26 Coach of the Year – Coach Doug Glebe

Hawks Athletic Club Celebrates Doug Glebe as 2025–2026 Coach of the Year

The Hawks Athletic Club is proud to recognize Doug Glebe as our 2025–2026 Coach of the Year.

Doug was announced as this year’s recipient during Friday evening’s Hawks Volunteer Banquet, where coaches, volunteers, and board members gathered to celebrate another incredible season of hockey and community.

Selected through parent nominations submitted as part of the Hawks Coach Feedback Survey, Doug stood out not only for the number of nominations he received, but for the consistency and passion behind the comments shared by families throughout the season.

Parents repeatedly highlighted Doug’s leadership, positivity, fairness, and ability to create an environment where players felt supported, challenged, and excited to come to the rink. Some of the comments shared by families included:

“Doug created a team culture where every player felt valued.”

“Our child grew in confidence so much this season.”

“He balanced competitiveness with positivity and development perfectly.”

“The kids respected him, listened to him, and genuinely loved being part of the team.”

“Doug went above and beyond for the players and families all season long.”
Throughout the survey process, one of the strongest themes that emerged was the impact Doug had not only on player development, but on the overall experience families had within Hawks hockey this season. Doug was the coach this year of our U13 team HK504 – a team with an incredibly varied skillset of kids and without a goalie on their roster. Yes, you heard that right. Doug and his team worked tirelessly through the year to ensure that they could pull up goalies from U11 for every game. With only a few hiccups and panicked text messages, HK504 had an incredibly successful season that included a Minor Hockey Week gold medal.

Coach of the Year recognition is awarded to a coach who demonstrates outstanding leadership, commitment, sportsmanship, and positive impact on players and team culture — qualities families clearly saw reflected in Doug throughout the season.

The Hawks Athletic Club would like to thank Doug, along with all of our volunteer coaches, for the countless hours they dedicate to supporting our players both on and off the ice.

Congratulations, Doug, on a well-deserved recognition and an outstanding season behind the bench.

Bingo Volunteering

Families in the Hawks Athletic Club are required to work one bingo shift per registered child, up to a maximum of two shifts per family. These bingo shifts are a vital part of our club’s fundraising efforts. The funds raised help supplement our operational costs, which in turn allows us to keep registration fees as low as possible for all families. Bingos take place at Castledowns Bingo and at Fort Road Bingo. Your participation directly supports the success and sustainability of our programs—thank you for doing your part!

Bingo Policy

  • Volunteering at one bingo event is mandatory on behalf of each child in our program, to a maximum of two.
  • If you do not want to work the mandatory bingo, it can be paid out for an extra $300.00 in fees at the time of registration only
  • Paying out your bingo later in the season will be at a cost of $350 per child, to a maximum of 2.
  • If you do not work your mandatory bingo(s) and do not pay them out in advance, there will be a $350 hold per child on your Spordle account. That amount will need to be paid before registering next year or before transferring to another club in the event your player is aging out of the Hawks.
  • All cancellations require at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice will result in a $350 penalty that will need to be paid before registering your child in any hockey association for the coming season.

HK404 Wins Gold at Minor Hockey Week… again

9:45am couldn’t come early enough for the members of HK404 who were anxious to find out if they would take the title for a second year in a row. Big congratulations go out to Head Coach Bryan Bartman, whose name you may recognize as he was the 2025 Hawks Coach of the Year.

At 10:25Musa Omer opened the scoring and buried one off a pass from Anthony Wheeler. Omer wasn’t done, ripping another one home in the last minute of the first, set up nicely by David Piceli.

Entering the second with a 2-0 score gave the Hawks a bit of comfort, which only increased when Marquel Auger and Benjamin Bartman teamed up to boost the score to 3. Late in the third, Hunter Quintal from SG406 rocketed one home to bring the score up to 3-1 where it stayed to the end.

HK401 Wins Gold at Minor Hockey Week 2026

The Hawks punched the time clock early and went to work at 8:15am at Terwillegar, putting on a clinic in the opening frame and never looking back. Big congratulations go out to Head Coach Albert Nolette, who clearly had the crew dialed in before the parents had finished their first coffee.

The Hawks came out flying, attacking the net like it owed us money. At 14:00, Joshua Bentum opened the scoring and buried one off a clean feed from Parker Clydesdale. Clydesdale wasn’t done, ripping one home himself at 8:15, set up nicely by Nathan Keats. Oh but there’s more! Oliver Rudman then went full McDavid, striking twice at 5:42 (from #8 Benjamin Woloschuk) and 2:17 (from #19 Ewan Lowrey). An assist wasn’t enough for Lowrey, who finished a pretty play from Rudman to cap a five-goal first period that had the goal light begging for mercy.

The second period had no goals, but plenty of structure. The Hawks tightened the screws, played smart, and kept things tidy—classic “protect the house” hockey. At 9:13, #16 Tristan Veller put the finishing touch on the morning with a beauty, sealing the deal and sending the Hawks bench into full smiles-and-fist-bumps mode.

Huge stick taps to Goalie Coach Kevin Lowrey and his legen (wait for it) dary lucky blocker and glove, which once again did their duty—from the bench. Yes, they stay on all game. No, we’re not questioning the magic. If it works, it works.

HK504 Wins Gold at Minor Hockey Week 2026

Congratulations to all the members of HK504 on your Minor Hockey Week gold medal!

HK504 has had a few ups and downs this season as they navigate the year without a resident goalie – borrowing goalies from U11 for each game, practice and tournament.

SN505 opened the scoring late in the first period, with Daniel Marcel finding the back of the net at 13:01 off a setup from Emma McDonald to give SN505 an early 1–0 lead.

The second period saw momentum swing back and forth. SN505 doubled their lead at 7:14 when Tyler Knoblauch converted a pass from Chase Nixon. HK504 responded quickly, as Xander Glebe got them on the board at 6:15, assisted by Orley Ness. SN505 answered once more late in the period, with Jordan Poltaruk scoring at 1:07 from Tiger Rain and Randon Adams, sending SN505 into the break up 3–1.

HK504 came out flying in the third period and took control of the game. Drew Rowland cut the deficit at 9:28 with help from Salvatore Santoro and Fredrick Gordon. Just under two minutes later, Santoro struck again off a feed from Gordon to make it a one-goal game. The comeback continued at 5:39 as Xander Glebe buried his second of the game, assisted by Orley Ness and Mason Lofthaug, tying things up. HK504 capped off the rally in dramatic fashion when Jordan Jammaz scored at 0:26, with Orley Ness picking up the assist.

Shoutout to U11 goalies Jasper Stengel and Allister Erickson, for their hard work between the pipes for HK504 throughout the tournament, and to head coach Doug Glebe for coaching his team to a Minor Hockey Week Gold medal for the second year running.

HK405 Wins Gold at Minor Hockey Week 2026

Congratulations to all the members of HK405 on your Minor Hockey Week gold medal!

The gold medal game opened with a scoreless first period as both teams settled in and focused on defensive play. Momentum picked up in the second when NE404 broke the deadlock at 11:19, with William Olson (#18) finding the back of the net. Under the mentorship of head coach Tyler Krein, HK405 responded quickly, as Brody Misener (#13) evened the score at 2:50, sending the game into the third period tied at 1.

HK405 completed the comeback early in the third period when Liam Renton (#6) scored at 2:40, giving his team the lead. That goal stood as the game-winner, as neither side recorded any penalties throughout the contest and defensive discipline remained strong to the final buzzer.

2025-26 Hockey Canada Participant Fees

New fee structure ensures safety, sustainability and development of hockey in Canada

Effective for the 2025-26 season, Hockey Canada participants will notice a change in the structure of their annual service fees that directly support benefits provided by the national governing body, including sport safety and hockey development initiatives.

Participants will each pay $41.41 in service fees next season, including insurance, which is an increase of $11.68.

The majority of the increase is related to the participant assessment fee, which has not been raised in over 20 years.

The participant service fees will be structured as follows:

  • Assessment fee will increase from $3.00/participant to $10.00/participant
  • Sport Integrity fee will increase from $2.94/participant to $4.50/participant
  • Hockey Canada Registry fee will be $3.12/participant
  • Participant insurance fees will not increase for the 2025-26 season and remain $23.79/participant.

We thank you for your understanding of these changes to our service fees for next season that are necessary to ensure the development, sustainability and safety of Canada’s hockey system.
